The Hidden ROI of Client Work.
Read time: 2.5 min.
This week, I signed a new client who's looking to build her personal brand.
We went for a walk so she could explain her core offer in more detail.
Not only did I listen to her explanation, but I also became her test subject.
She took me through the entire process, step-by-step.
And while she spoke, I felt that familiar wave of excitement.
Not just because I can build her personal brand, but because of what was invisibly happening between us.
I was learning.
The Double Value Exchange
This is what I've never told you about my work.
But it might be the most valuable aspect of it.
When I work with a client to build their personal brand, I don't just get paid for my expertise. I gain access to their brain, their methods, their years of knowledge and experience.
You see, many view a business relationship simply as:
Client pays money
Expert delivers service
Transaction completed
But the reality? It's much richer.
For every client I help to share their knowledge online and create a greater impact, I enrich my own thinking with their specialized knowledge.
It's a double value exchange.
This week, for example, I learned all about how I can be a more vital entrepreneur.
She took me through a scan, rooted in the Five Elements from traditional Chinese philosophy, to map out how I naturally operate as an entrepreneur.
Knowledge I would never have gained if I hadn't worked with this specific client.
Purpose-Driven Profit
Of course, money is important.
It keeps the lights on and food on the table.
"That's how the world works," as I tell myself.
But there's so much more.
By diving deep into my clients' coaching processes, I continue to grow, to learn, to develop myself in areas I never could have predicted.
This is why my work never gets boring. Each new client is not only a chance to make an impact with my expertise but an opportunity to broaden my own horizons.
And that's refreshing.
It keeps me sharp.
It makes me look forward to my work every day.
Final Words
When you're truly passionate about your work, it never bores.
You continue to grow, discover, and develop yourself.
It's not just about what you give to others, but also what you get back — not just in dollars, but in wisdom, insight, and new perspectives.
And isn't that what life is all about?
Much love,
Martijn
