I disappeared into the woods.

Here's what I learned...

Last weekend, I disappeared.

No phone. No internet. Just me, a quiet chalet deep in the woods, and a fireplace crackling away in the background.

For the first time in… I don’t even know how long, I wasn’t being pulled in a hundred different directions. No notifications, no emails, no random group chats firing off nonsense at 9 AM.

It was just silence.

And for the first few hours, my brain did what all overstimulated brains do when you suddenly cut the noise. It panicked.

I reached for my phone at least ten times before remembering: ‘Oh right. No service.’

In desperate search for the next hit of input my mind replayed old conversations, random regrets, and even that one time when I peed my pants in class, 14 years ago.

But after a while… the noise faded. And in its place arose this immense clarity.

That’s when I had a deep realization.

Most of Your Thoughts Aren’t Truly Yours

We like to believe we’re in control of our thoughts, our ideas, our decisions.

But are we really?

The second you wake up, what’s the first thing you do?

Probably check your phone. And what’s waiting for you?

  • Other people’s opinions.

  • Other people’s requests.

  • A flood of information you didn’t ask for but now feel obligated to process.

Before you’ve even brushed your teeth, your brain is already hijacked.

And this isn’t just a one-off thing.

It’s all day, every day.

Your inbox, your newsfeed, your notifications… they’re all training you to be a consumer instead of a creator.

And if you’re not careful, you’ll waste your entire life away like that. On constant autopilot, reacting to whatever grabs your attention first.

And the worst part?

You don’t even notice it’s happening.

I sure didn’t. Not until I stepped away from it all.

Reclaiming My Life

That weekend off-grid blessed me with a level of clarity I didn’t know I was missing.

And when I came back, I knew I couldn’t let it slip away.

So I made a decision:

The first 4 hours of my day belong to me.

No phone. No emails. No reacting to the world.

Just private time to think, write, and build my online business.

And honestly? It feels incredible.

For the first time in ages, I’m in full control of my attention instead of letting it be stolen.
