Five days after 1 million subscribers.
Read time: 3 min.
Last week, my faceless YouTube channel hit 1,000,000 subscribers.
A million people subscribed to a channel where I don't show my face, don't do fancy intros, and don't follow any of the "YouTube strategy" playbooks everyone swears by.
It still feels surreal.
Five days later, I'm going through my inbox and I see an email that makes me stop scrolling.
It's from someone who works directly with Chris Williamson.
If you don't know: Chris hosts Modern Wisdom, one of the top 10 most streamed podcasts in the world. His conversations with people like Andrew Huberman, Morgan Housel, and Alex Hormozi pull millions of views. He's built one of the most influential platforms in the personal development space.
And for years, I've been a fan from the sidelines.
But when I read that email, I sat back in my chair and realized something that had nothing to do with the email itself.
I thought: I'm now one person away from Chris Williamson.
The Full-Circle Moment
This realization made me feel something I didn't expect: seen.
Not in an ego-stroking, look-at-me kind of way.
But in a "holy shit, someone operating at that level actually knows what I'm doing" kind of way.
It was a full-circle moment I didn't see coming.
How This Actually Happens
Three years ago, I had no business plan. No monetization strategy. No vision of building a "brand."
I just loved learning. I'd listen to podcasts, find these perfect 60-second moments that rewired something in my brain, and think: What if I just shared these?
A Naval Ravikant framework. An Alan Watts perspective on anxiety. A Matthew McConaughey story that landed different than anything I'd heard before.
Week after week. Clip after clip.
Year 1 (2022): 22,000 subscribers
Year 2 (2023): 116,000 subscribers
Year 3 (2024): 313,000 subscribers
Year 4 (2025): 1,000,000 subscribers
But here's the reality: subscriber count is just a number. The real impact happens in who starts paying attention.
Because when you build in public long enough, you don't just grow an audience. You grow proximity to people you never thought you'd be proximate to.
Your Moment Is Coming
Your version won't look like mine.
Maybe it's not a million subscribers. Maybe it's your first $10K month. Maybe it's a DM from someone you admire. Maybe it's a speaking invitation you never saw coming. Maybe it's a client saying "I've been following you for months, I just had to work with you."
These moments don't announce themselves. They grow quietly in the background while you're focused on the work.
You publish when nobody's watching. You refine your craft when it feels pointless. You stay consistent when every metric suggests you should quit.
And then one day, the world catches up to what you've been building.
What I'd Tell Myself 4 Years Ago
Start now. Even if you have no idea where it's going.
Don't obsess over strategy. Follow curiosity. Share what genuinely helps you.
Don't measure success by immediate results. Measure it by whether you're still showing up six months from now.
This is true whether you're building a faceless brand, a personal brand, a coaching practice, or any kind of business.
Because visibility compounds in ways you can't predict. The right people eventually notice. The distance eventually closes.
But only if you stay in the game long enough to let it happen.
Much love,
— Martijn
P.S. Curious about the channel? @connectwithgrowth
P.P.S. If you're building your own thing and want someone in your corner who's done it, reply anytime. I work with people on this stuff.
